Unlike general psychiatry, which addresses a broad range of mental health issues, Addiction Psychiatry is dedicated to understanding the complex interplay between addiction, mental health, and physical wellness. This unique service is crucial for individuals struggling with addiction, as it provides targeted interventions and therapies designed to address both the physical and psychological aspects of substance use. At our holistic psychiatric clinic, we integrate Addiction Psychiatry with other holistic practices to support comprehensive healing and recovery, ensuring that patients receive personalized care tailored to their specific needs.

What does addiction psychiatry look like in practice?

Carencia starts with a thorough assessment to understand unique challenges and needs. Addressing any physical dependence first is a key step. From there, we create a unique and tailored plan for long-term recovery, incorporating psychotherapy, behavioral therapies, and referrals to support both the physical and psychological aspects of addiction. Often, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) (this could be hyperlinked to the Injection page and anchored to Vivitrol, Brixadi, and Sublocade) is considered to reduce cravings or reducing the reward of use when indicated and desired. Regular follow-ups ensure progress is monitored and adjustments are made as needed.

Medications, such as Vivitrol, can help reduce cravings and manage withdrawal symptoms, while therapy can address the underlying psychological and emotional issues that contribute to addiction. Our team of healthcare providers will work with you to determine the best approach for your individual needs, including a combination of therapy and medication if deemed appropriate.

How does Vivitrol work in treating addiction? +

Vivitrol is an extended-release injectable medication used to treat addiction. It works by blocking the effects of opioids and reducing cravings. When taken as directed, Vivitrol can be an effective tool in the treatment of addiction, particularly for those struggling with opioid dependency.
