Injections

What are Injections?

In psychiatry, injections are a common method used to administer medications directly into the body. This technology can be crucial in managing treatment needs in mental health and addiction care.

These are some, but not all the medication offerings we provide as an injection:

vivitrol

This is the most common form of MAT. Naltrexone blocks the effects of opiates on the brain and can also be used for alcohol addiction. Vivitrol is a prescription injectable medication for alcohol and opioid dependence that is administered every month. Carencia offers the administration of Vivitrol as part of its Medication-Assisted Treatment plans.

Though Buprenorphine most commonly comes in pill form, it is also offered as a monthly injectable called Sublocade. Paired with a solid counseling plan, Sublocade is a safe and effective treatment for opioid dependency.

What do Injection Treatments look like in practice?

At Carencia, injection treatments are designed with convenience and comfort in mind. Patients can receive their injections from their regular mental health provider during routine visits, ensuring that all aspects of their care are managed seamlessly. These injections can be administered every 2-4 weeks or up to every 3-6 months, depending on the medication and the specific indication. This approach allows patients to maintain their regular schedules while receiving effective treatment in a familiar and supportive environment.

Why does Carencia offer Injection Treatments?

Carencia offers specialty medication injections as a treatment to enhance convenience and compliance. This method ensures that patients do not have to decide whether to take their medication, thereby improving adherence and reducing the risk of missed doses. The technology behind these injections allows for rapid onset of medication effects and, due to the long half-life of many injectable medications, helps avoid the side effects and withdrawal symptoms that can occur with missed doses. This approach provides a reliable and effective way to manage psychiatric conditions, ensuring that patients receive consistent and optimal care.

What does a typical injections therapy session look like? +

You attend your scheduled appointment and receive your monthly single-dose injection. We wait briefly to ensure there are no adverse side-effects, then you’re free to continue with your day.

02

How are injections administered? +

Both Vivitrol and Sublocade are monthly injections and are given as a single dose. Side effects and minor and the process of receiving the injection is no different than injections you’ve received in other clinical settings.

03

How do I know if injections are right for me? +

Injections are a part of your treatment plan only when Carencia is absolutely sure it will make a meaningful difference. When patients are struggling with addiction and substance abuse, there are occasions when a medication-assisted path is truly is right way forward.

04

Who Should Not Use Injections? +

Injections are used only when absolutely necessary, so the Carencia team will exercise caution when advising injections. Each medication has its own unique side effects and precautions, and we will discuss all of this with you in-depth during treatment.
