Anxiety looks different in every person’s life. From ever-present tension and nervousness to spontaneous and debilitating panic attacks, there is a path forward that involves treating the whole person, not just the symptom set.

Generalized Anxiety

Ongoing worry or dread that persists for long periods of time. It can manifest in symptoms from aches and sleeping difficulty to feeling on edge with constant thoughts of worry.

Panic Disorder

Feelings of extreme fear, as if your body is in immediate danger. Symptoms can include severe chest tension, rapid breathing, and feeling a complete lack of control over your body.

Social Anxiety

Worry or dread that comes about particularly in social settings, often resulting from the fear of judgment. Symptoms can include a rapid heartbeat, a feeling of embarrassment, and an inability to think straight.

Phobia-Related Disorders

Debilitating fear of something(s) in particular (flying in an airplane, heights, spiders, animals, public restrooms, being outside of the home alone, crowds, etc).

PTSD

Anxiety or fear related to one experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, experiencing the threat of an event taking place, or the third-party observation of a traumatic event via media. This often results in intrusive, persistent thoughts that cause panic.

When does Anxiety become an issue?

Do you prescribe Xanax or other similar medications? +

Depending on the nature of the concern, we will consider all treatment options available. However, we do not prescribe long-term benzodiazepine medications as evidence-based practice does not recommend these medications be used longer than 6 weeks in duration. We also may not continue these types of medications if you have been prescribed them by a previous provider if you are establishing care with us.

What insurance(s) does Carencia accept? +

Carencia is in-network with BlueCross BlueShield PPO, Cigna PPO, Aetna PPO, United Healthcare PPO policies. We are also able to serve you if you do not have health insurance or have a policy we are not in-network with as a cash pay client.

Do you treat panic attacks? +

Yes, we treat panic attacks by treating the source of the concern. We try to identify the presenting concern and address it with treatment options, including medication and psychotherapy, rather than providing short-term medications that do not have a long-lasting positive impact.

How do I know if I am anxious? +

Anxiety is very complex but the majority of individuals will feel nervous, worried, preoccupied, and/or on-edge most of the time. Anxiety can be general in nature or specific, like in social situations or when you are speaking in public or taking a test. We can discuss additional symptoms at your appointment to create a tailored treatment plan for your concern.

What if I think I am depressed? +

Depression is a mental health condition in which the individual most likely feels persistently sad or as if they have lost interest/joy/pleasure in activities that they once found fun and enjoyable. Additional symptoms can be feeling heavy, lethargic, and distractible. We can discuss additional symptoms at your appointment to create a tailored treatment plan for your concern.

What are the different types of anxiety disorders you treat? +

Carencia treats a variety of anxiety disorders, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD), Specific Phobia, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), to name a few.

Can medication be used in conjunction with therapy for treating anxiety disorders? +

At Carencia, we use medication in conjunction with therapy to treat anxiety disorders. Medications, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and benzodiazepines, can help reduce symptoms of anxiety, allowing patients to participate more effectively in therapy and make progress towards recovery. However, the use of medication is determined on a case-by-case basis in consultation with your qualified healthcare provider at Carencia.

How effective is cognitive behavioral therapy in treating anxiety disorders? +

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has proven to be a highly effective form of treatment for anxiety disorders and is offered at Carencia. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), CBT has been shown to be as effective as medication in treating anxiety disorders, and in some cases, even more effective when used in conjunction with medication.
